Maharashtra plans to digitise property registration records dating back to 1865, covering nearly 30 crore documents in one of the state's largest record-digitisation drives. The exercise will convert decades of physical registers into searchable electronic records.

The vast archive of registration documents, accumulated over more than a century and a half, has been difficult to search and prone to deterioration. Digitisation will make historical title and transaction records easier to access, verify and preserve.

For property buyers, lawyers and authorities, digital access to old records can streamline title due diligence and reduce disputes rooted in missing or damaged paperwork. The initiative supports broader efforts to modernise land and property administration in the state.
