Vertical property cards proposal back with Maharashtra government;...
A proposal to introduce vertical property cards is back before the Maharashtra government, aiming to create a clear, floor-wise record of ownership in multi-storey buildings. The system would extend the concept of land property cards to individual apartments stacked vertically.
At present, ownership records for flats are scattered across society documents and agreements, with no single authoritative title record per unit. Vertical property cards would assign each apartment a distinct ownership entry, improving clarity and reducing disputes.
For a high-rise-dominated city like Mumbai, the reform could strengthen title security, ease property transactions and support transparent records. The renewed push signals government interest in modernising how apartment ownership is documented.
