Borivali Flyover to Ease Traffic by May 2028

Residents of Borivali East and Borivali West could benefit from improved road connectivity as BMC continues work on a new cable-stayed flyover.

The project, estimated at ₹341.59 crore, is being developed to connect Western Express Highway with Link Road while avoiding several busy intersections along Dattapada Road.

Completion is currently targeted for May 2028.

For residents travelling across Borivali, the new bridge is intended to make east-west movement more convenient.

Flyover to Reduce Dattapada Road Congestion

Dattapada Road is an important local route connecting residential neighbourhoods with the wider road network.

Motorists currently encounter traffic at Rajendra Nagar Junction, Dattapada Cross Road Junction and the junction near Suswagat Hotel.

The new flyover will create an elevated route that bypasses these intersections.

This could help reduce the delays experienced by commuters who regularly travel between Borivali East and West.

Bridge to Stretch 880 Metres

The new flyover will extend for approximately 880 metres, with a cable-stayed section measuring 500 metres.

Its width will range between 15.3 metres and 21.5 metres.

The structure will connect the eastern approach of General Cariappa Rail Over Bridge with a landing point near Western Express Highway.

It will also link to the Kora Kendra flyover, providing onward access towards Link Road.

Better Access to Upcoming Road Projects

The bridge is expected to support connectivity with the upcoming Mumbai Coastal Road Project (North) and the proposed Thane–Borivali Twin Tunnel.

These connections could eventually provide more travel options for residents commuting towards Thane and other parts of Mumbai.

However, the full benefits will depend on the completion and operational integration of these separate infrastructure projects.

What It Means for Homebuyers and Tenants

For people considering buying or renting homes in Borivali, road connectivity is an important factor alongside railway access, metro stations, schools and commercial facilities.

A more direct connection between Western Express Highway and Link Road could make certain residential neighbourhoods more convenient for daily commuting.

The improvement may be particularly relevant for residents who frequently cross between Borivali East and West.

However, buyers and tenants should evaluate existing travel conditions rather than relying solely on future infrastructure promises.

Construction Progress

BMC has reported that around 70% of the bridge's foundation and substructure work has been completed.

Superstructure construction is currently underway.

The civic body aims to finish the project by May 2028.

Once completed, the bridge is expected to help reduce congestion and improve road movement through the Dattapada corridor.

SANDEEP SADH'S TAKE: Borivali already has strong residential demand, but road congestion remains a concern for many residents. The new flyover could improve daily commuting, especially for households that regularly travel between Borivali East and West.
