A Leading Property Portal Gets a New Home at Aurum
Aurum PropTech is acquiring a leading property portal from its global parent in an all-equity deal valued at ₹458 crore, with the parent's India arm becoming a 24.9% shareholder in Aurum PropTech after the transaction.
The strategic angle is clear. Aurum wants to combine the portal's consumer marketplace with its existing proptech stack across PropTiger, NestAway, HelloWorld, Sell.do, Aurum Analytica, rentals, brokerage, CRM, analytics, and transactions. The company’s stated thesis is to build an AI and data-led operating layer for Indian real estate.
For the proptech space, this signals consolidation around full-stack platforms rather than standalone listing portals. The competitive center is now shifting from classifieds traffic to data quality, transaction workflows, broker and developer inventory, and AI-led matching.
India’s proptech sector has had a relatively slow start, despite the size and complexity of the real estate market. This acquisition could give a strong boost to several platforms that are likely to emerge in the coming years, because in real estate, data is the real key. A platform that can sync reliable data, connect brokers and builders, and finally serve the consumer with accurate information has immense value.
Today, many large portals have struggled with data quality, with consumers often facing outdated, incomplete, or unreliable listings. This creates a clear need for better verified data across the ecosystem. Emerging platforms like Propi.in are already sharing a significant amount of useful industry data, helping developers and channel partners connect more efficiently.
The Indian real estate market is huge and still starved of strong, practical ideas that can help brokers, builders, and home buyers transact with more confidence. Any platform that improves transparency, data quality, and connectivity in this space has a real opportunity. The portal has not fully delivered on that promise so far, but with this acquisition, that could begin to change.
