8.5-Acre Kurla Housing Society Redevelopment Faces Scrutiny

The redevelopment of a large cooperative housing society in Kurla has come under scrutiny following complaints regarding the process surrounding the proposed project.

Bombay Taximen Cooperative Housing Society occupies approximately 8.5 acres on LBS Marg and comprises 656 residential units and 30 commercial premises across 29 wings.

A section of residents has raised allegations concerning society records, signatures and the developer-selection process. Authorities are examining the complaints, and the allegations have not been established as wrongdoing.

For existing residents, redevelopment can significantly change the value and quality of their homes, but projects of this size can also involve complex legal, financial and governance issues.

For resale buyers considering homes in buildings where redevelopment is proposed, the case highlights the importance of checking more than simply the potential additional area or expected redevelopment benefits.

Buyers should understand whether a developer has been formally appointed, the status of member approvals, documentation and whether any disputes could affect the redevelopment timeline.

Sandeep Sadh’s Take:

“Buyers should never price a resale flat purely on promised redevelopment benefits. Until approvals, documentation and society consensus are clear, redevelopment potential should be treated carefully.”
